Production of children’s shoes in Portugal part 2

A 'Last' is a foot-shaped model that ensures an optimal fit for any shoe from bisgaard. The shoes are produced using specially designed 'lasts', that give the shoes a comfortable fit. Bisgaard shoes are made in an assortment of both narrow and wide 'lasts'. In close cooperation with specially trained modelers at the factories in Portugal, bisgaard develops shoes with the deepest respect for children's feet and their development.

Bisgaard ensures that the scaling of all shoe sizes, match the phases of the foot's development. The specialized modelers shape the 'last' until it has the absolute perfect shape.

When the right shape is created, the 'last' is scanned into a 3D program where the mass production of the 'last' begins. The production can be scaled up and down. A unique 'last' is developed in  assortment of every size.

There is focus on waste throughout every process in the production of a bisgaard shoe. Excess material from the 'lasts' production is collected and reused to make new 'lasts'. It ensures the optimum profit of the production, which also benefits the environment.

Here you see a completed 'last'. The 'lasts' are tempered at high heat, which removes dirt and irregularities. They are then forwarded to the factories where the shoes are produced.
