Pablo, 2, lives in Christianshavn, Copenhagen, with his mother Thea, his father Oscar, their dog Mester, and soon baby sister who is expected this summer. Pablo goes to daycare, loves buttery croissants from the neighbourhood café, and is deeply fascinated by cars and his big hero Lightning McQueen from the movie Cars. Thea, who also grew up in Christianshavn, is a registered nurse with years of experience in the psychiatry. For the past six years, she has been self-employed as a holistic body therapist, running her own studio just around the corner from the family’s home. With its famous canals, historic houses, and cobblestone streets, this charming part of the city forms the backdrop of everyday life for the family, who love city life with children.
How does a typical everyday look like for you and Pablo?
We wake up when Pablo wakes up, usually around 6.30. Oscar makes Pablo and I tea every morning, and we have it together in bed. It's a non-negotiable ritual for us. After tea, it's time for breakfast, which Pablo and I share together on weekdays. Meals are sacred in our household, and we really try to put in the effort for every meal - set the table, light candles - although it's not always easy with a 2-year-old toddler. On weekdays, Pablo goes to daycare and Oscar and I go to work. His daycare is just down the street, so we can walk there, which is such a luxury in everyday life. We usually talk about the cars and trucks that we see on the way. It's such a nice start to the day.

Do you remember when Pablo took his first steps and the feelings you had?
Sure! With a firstborn, that's a moment I'll never forget. It was a couple of days before his 1st birthday, and we were practicing in the kitchen while cooking dinner. All of the sudden he took those cute little steps, and the rush of happiness and cheer was insane. A milestone like that deserves a standing ovation!

What is the important to you when choosing shoes for Pablo?
The shoes need to be practical for play and fun! He's an active little boy who likes to climb and mount things, so I want to make sure his footwear can withstand a lot of wear and tear. Barefoot shoes and flexible soles have been a non-negotiable, too. I can't stand the thought of his little chubby feet not being able to move properly.

What are your favorite bisgaard styles for the season, and what do you specifically like about them?
We LOVE the 'barefoot high rubber boots' with the high shaft - no rainwater gets through the bottom of his pants no matter how much he jumps in rain puddles. For summer, we'll repurchase the 'barefoot beannie' sandals that we had last year. They are genius! Incredibly soft, doesn't disturb the foot's natural movement and closed off in the front to protect his little toes.
